AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Hi all WOV have been having lag issues mainly at weekends but also through the week aswell, for example last night both their servers and TS were lagging last night.

From the hardware side the network on the 1gb link is not going over 10% usage and CPU's are not going over 40% normal running for CPU is 10% the majority of the time so I know its not a hardware performance issue .

So can all hosted clans please feed back on what lag you have had with approx days and times also the sverity of the lag

eg -: Lag now and again but nothing major

Comes and Goes but can last hours

Once I have enough info I can go back to GD to show the problems we are getting on the network side.

IF I get feed back where the other hosted clans are not getting these lag issues then I can look to see if the WOV servers are being targeted by some sort of DOS attack but think they have now put GS protector on so that should protect them from that.

Happy shooting - Kill em ALL and kill em again

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

i AM ALWAYS laggy,, but that might be because I am half way around the world. Some pages take a full minute to load.

Just thought you would like to know.

and our fun server has the same problem ip 109.70.148.92:12299 but it does not happen as often as the tdm server

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

My obj servers are both on 109.70.148.92 ......and both at times lagging very bad. Spike lags are really bad sometimes.....and pings go through the roof. This problem has been ongoing for quite a few weeks now.

P.S. sorry about the size of my sig !  dunno what happened there Tongue

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Been smooth all day ......but

Lag reported from 16.00 hrs on the OBJ Server .92 .... server ping between 3 and 95 with obvious lag spikes. Apparentley it should be around 48/50

Thats the feed back i have so far for today.....

p.s.....this is not me !!!! LOL (in sig)

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Hi all - first of many thanks for the feed back

Ok will try to explain a few things that have been raised................

Some had asked why we dont run on Linux and run on windows, well there are pro's and cons for both but agreed Linux is cleaner and less resource hugry but for myself I am not able to support a Linux box and also SCAPP for which we have a free licsence thanks to Joto does not run on Linux at present.

So what we got now well at present this is the current perfmance -:

Lets take a look at what we are using on CPU and Memory  (above) - well this is where linux is better we are using 45% of our memory and CPU 16% currently we are running 19 servers and 10 Teamspeak servers - The memory increases slowly overy the month but we reboot once a month to clear down. as for CPU never seen it above 40% so again we are paying for more than we need - TBH I am at the point that we dont need the old dedi - 1 and we could migrate the servers from their (only 8 on that ) and we can rent a backup TS from another third party host for £3 a month - I will not migrate dedi 1 till I have resolved the lag issues with WOV but from feed back a few have issues with lag from other AAAA hosted clans but the bulk are all ok.

As you can see we are running at 0.28% !!! of our network 1gb link which means we are paying for a resource we are not using

Some changes I have done the last few days just trying to work out why WOV is having problems is that the Web hosting was always restricted on CPU affinity to 2 or 3 cores BUT I have never stopped any of the MOHAA servers using the same cores so I wondered that may be the affinity allocation of the web server which can spike many times was perhaps swamping any mohaa related servers allocated to that shared core....... So now I have isoloated 2 cores  to the web server and no mohaa services can run in it - So infact I have reduced the core allocation to the MOHAA servers but the fact that the 8 affinty cores dont spike above 10% as a whole but the web affinity cores do spike as individuals may help - you can see on the top graphic that the last 2 cores where the web site is assigned were starting to spike................

Anyway this is work in progress and have spoke to WOV and a few other clans - it seems at present that the bulk of the other hosted clans are happy with none or very little lag only the odd player having issues but clearly WOV has a lot of other issues no fault of their own and I have checked their setup and not found much different from any other clan so I am just trying to trace the fault but wanted to show that we have great hardware and if we are to continue this hosting together I and WE all as a community  must work together and  find whats causing WOV's issues they have been a great supporter of AAAA and have worked with me alot to try and see whats going on and why they have issues so I hope we all can input to try and resolve any issues with any of the servers.

Many thanks all

FEED BACK FROM SOME OF MY MEMBERS REGARDING LAG ISSUES..........

http://www.wovclan.enjin.com/forum/page/1/m/7569347/viewthread/5876919-server-issues

With most of the pk's removed now by jon......lag is still a major issue Sad  at a loss now really as do what the issue is. Maybe the server needs scrapping and re-building.

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Hi all

Not sure how much my post would mean to many.

Was on wov server for 10mins - saw slow server at start but had no lag issues, and had ping around 48.

Hope things can get sorted and you will always have lag at some stage - nothing is perfect!!

Cheers

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

I know nothing is perfect......and lag occurs....but not to the extreme we have been experiencing the last few weeks....... With all due 'respect' guys.....you might have been on server at a 'good' time when we had no lag Smile

And when 'most' are experiencing it, there must be a problem. I need to get 'feed back' today on the server, before anything else is done and the pk's are put back.

And jon.....you need to register on my forum and you're not registered according to the 'members list'.

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Ok thanks Victory that helps a lot when you can compare servers - if anyone can also compare other none AAAA hosted servers at the same time - even our dedi1 so any server on 109.70.148.54 and also ones on this IP range 109.70.148....... as this will show if other Gaming Deluxe servers are lagging at the same time

Also how long did this last ?

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Just some FYI info found 2 IP's trying to hack the server logon past few days - not saying that was lag cause but was nice to spot

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Have Spoke with GD about all this - anyone getting lag please get them to do the following -:

Start run CMD on XP on windos 7 do start and then key in CMD

Then on both Windows 7 and xp key in the following -:

tracert 109.70.148.92 - DONT post here PM me here -: http://www.mohaaaa.co.uk/AAAAMOHAA/users/aaaaheatsinkbod

GD will then get their network engineers to check their network with this

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

I am removing developer 2 from all clans hosted servers - those that need it for the likes of player stats thats fine and can be re-added - I just dont want it running on clan servers where they dont need it as its generating massive amounts of log data and disk i/o

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Been also working with GD on some other bits and bobs - we have some external IP's trying to hack the dedi its not a dos attack but they are running a script against our server trying to gain access - GD have now locked down our remote access to registered IP's and we have banned a range of IP's - Also I am run all the consoles for the MOHAA servers as they are handy to keep an eye on things but these are a resource so these will be removed on next restart server side only

Another GD server you can test that is not hosted by AAAA 109.70.148.18 LUV clan

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

10.22 and 10.36 all servers pings went to 130 this includes  WoV / SS and BAD

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

hey jon

i can  see the most annoying thing is that our ango-tdm and fun serveres is not in Qtracker server list more

our tdm and fun are still very lag is so bad that for me (blackwolf) have problems with and see the player i shoot at. and player

disappears only when there is much lag otherwise i can see the players

so the only problem we have is lag and that people can not see tdm and fun on Qtracker server list

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Heei Jon,

last night i removed the GS protector from our server ( WOV OBJ 109.70.148.92:12215 )
I just dont get it, why after removal of the gs protector ( 9 files deleted ) i log back in the game, use the rconpassword.. come back on the ftp...

there again 3 files on the ftp about GS protector..

Imo thats weird, since theres no GS protector on it anymore because ive deleted it the way i always deleted them

( close server, go in ftp, take all 9 files out, restart server ) <== it always worked for me..

Seems like theres a 2nd party running GS protector?

Hi Victory - thats an interesting one as that points to a network spike on GD as you saw it on BAD aswell how long did this last ? going by your times above a couple of mins ?

You will always get network spikes on any Network but they should be random and short so the ones that are over 5 mins are going to be DOS attacks or a network problem, whats starting to help is that you are seeing the issus on other none hosted AAAA servers so kind of pointsw to a GD network issue but we would need to provide info on when and how often its that poor we cant play

Hi Blackwolf - with regards to the Qtracker - as the servers are set up the same as the other servers their is no reason for it not to show on Qtracker - also as you can see your servers show on

Xfire and Gametracker (not checked checked but also in game ?) so this is looking like a Qtracker problem. Please go direct to thier site http://www.qtracker.com/ and raise the issue on their forum - Include all the Gamespy settings you have in your server CFG as that will be the first thing they will ask you to check - give them the IP and port of the server not showing so they can check manually - also give an example of the other AAAA servers that are showing in Qtracker either 109.70148.92 or 109.70.148.54 explain they are on same host servers.

Hope above helps if not come back to me.

With regards to your lag - treating this as individual personal lag as spoken to a couple of the other ANGO members and they are ok and not having Lag issues. Would suggest you can say try the BAD server as this is not hosted on AAAA but is on Gaming Deluxe network hosting so would be interested if you dont get lag on their server.

Also double check your in game MOHAA network setting is set to xDSL some times that defaults to the wrong setting.

Also provide me with the Tracert to the server as above PM me and I will forward it to GD to check on their network

Then on both Windows 7 and xp key in the following -:

tracert 109.70.148.92 - DONT post here PM me here -: http://www.mohaaaa.co.uk/AAAAMOHAA/users/aaaaheatsinkbod

Here is the gametracker link showing your servers http://www.gametracker.com/search/mohaa/?query=109.70.148.92&searchipp=50#search

Hi looks like the 3 remaining files are -:

ws2_32.dll

wsock32.dll

myproxocket.dll

Your server is set to auto start so by the time you have stopped your server and gone to delete these your server has restarted so it cant delete them as its in use.

You need to change the Auto start toggle to off on the SCAPP control pannel then stop your server then delete those files and then put your server back into auto start - If that dont work give me a shout and I will delete them - I have not deleted them as did not want to stop your server as it was full

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

heei Jon

I used scapp for closing the server & turned autostart off.

Server has been offline last night & this morning to get rid of the files.

They just keep coming back..

Its ok, ill try again tonight or perhaps tomorrow morning.

Hopefully it works then Smile

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Oki did it again this morning...

think u were right Jon, my mistake... i thought i deleted all files... but i forgot 1.
think thats why the files kept coming back Laughing out loud

Now the server is cleared from the Gs protector, lets see how it runs now Laughing out loud

Re: AAAA Hosting any lag issues

Last night seemed to be without any problems ( atleast i wasnt here myself, i heard from people )

But i hope Jayne or Alan will post here.. so that they could give an update.

Ive just entered the server today, and putted the lagometer on for lets say 30 mins.

Little yellow dots on the blue line, and after asking the players they said they hardly faced any lag since they joined server. ( server was full again offcourse )

We'll see what happens later on the day...
