NEW AAAA website project

Well this is home for the new AAAA website project.......

Ok so our little home here on AAAA is very outdated......

Their are problems and issues but this old site started over a Weekend when Myself and Bob got together and wanted to get a MOHAA community together...........

So it was built from a quick startup and has served its purpose so for some time now we have been working on next generation for AAAA for a while now........

The reasons for a new website are vast - but this site is about as secure as my nade in my pocket

So I started to look at how I would upgrade site but wanted to do it properly this time and not a rush job......

So TheEnforcer and I had some chat on PM's and came up with Drupal 7 and PHPBB3 about 6 months ago.........

To be honest this is at a stand still because Drupal 7 does not have a user account bridge to PHPBB3.

I am not sure how much work you have done on Drupal 7 Enforcer ? but I am now wondering where to go from here as other members have inputed also and asked where we are........

For my side I cant progress on Drupal 7 until their is a bridge so I have started looking again at Drupal 6 with thought of in the future we could migrate to Drupal 7 - at the same time...........
I have had suggestions of going in different directions also on our frame work........

So I am at a cross roads and your input Enforcer on your input to this project - but for time scales I wont to move forward quickly which for my abilities I would go Drupal 6 as I know I can build the site quickly under that frame work............

If any members would like to get involved in helping AAAA deveolpe the new website post away!!!

but I see that we can move to drupal 6 in a week from my side and go with that template I showed you, then I move and fix what I can to Drupal 6 and we keep the Drupal 7 project going.....

- this will be a quick fix to a mid position on where we want to get to perhaps ???

But I guess I need to progress on this project........

Just trying an option out today.......

Install of Drupal 6
Import of PHPBB2 to Drupal core Forum (advanced update)
Upgrade of Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

Most of the missing functions of PHPBB3 in Drupal core forum are added with the advanced Forum module plus about 5 other modules.......

What we get from Drupal forum is full integration so I see added bonus their - What we loose from not using PHPBB3 not seeing any show stoppers......

Not used the Drupal advanced forum before so need to havea play to see how it looks and feels

Well The Drupal 6 import of nuke bb2 failed big time even after I renamed all tables to how they should be in PHPBB2 so the plan is now this -:

Install of Drupal 6 - DONE
Import of PHPBB2 to PHPBB3 standalone (have done this b4 so know it works) - DONE

Drupal 6 import of PHPBB3 from above (will try this tomorrow)

Upgrade of Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

At last something worked!!!

nstall of Drupal 6 - DONE
Import of PHPBB2 to PHPBB3 standalone - DONE no errors

Drupal 6 import of PHPBB3 from above - DONE no errors!!

Upgrade of Drupal 6 to Drupal 7..........

Ok results so far are very good - the Drupal 6 forum with imported PHPBB2 appears to only have lost users sigs - so I dont see that as a show stopper.

Issues - Signature Length to small and not in settings but have found the table entry in mysql to increase it.

Have not updated to advanced forum module yet will do that now but to get it this far has taken me a full day and I have had to install approx 20 modules just to get Forum as it should be..........

So just doing 4 more modules and then I have to test upgrade to Drupal 7 but its going very well

Ok in to deeeeeeeep now on Drupal 6 have done over 50 mysql table fixes and installed another 15 modules but it is all starting to nit together !!! - At this point now think I have another 250 updates to perform but got to the point I cant go back............

So I fix and import updates and then import content blocks from nuke and convert - some issues on forum still started as 100 + faults fixed 40 today and all fixes easy so far.............

Need a day to import Menu's and links and 3 days to sort content blocks but going well so by the end of next week I should have coded most fixes and if new template not ready will go with a stock one and will need to a day to re import forum across 3 builds and should be able to go live

Another 5 fixes on forum......Its starting to feel like forum no graphics just fixing stuff and to be honest it now has more functions then we ever had - still got an import issue with BBcode but could have converted that to html on import and then any new posts would have option to choose.............

Have cross linked a few fixes to old directory struckture under nuke so need to go back and import those to Drupal dir and get a clean fix...........

Not sure for weekend but think I can go live on temp template this weekend and then wait for Enforcer to update on live site

Ok knackered now and making mistakes but just upgraded 5 modules to fix some forum issues but looking good and stage it is at cant see any problem on new Druplal Forum and has so much more user functions then we ever had ........

I should have Forum finished tomorrow and then start on core blocks and core website features, menu build and stuff like that...........

Got a few things sorted this weekend but had a lot of trouble trying to find a better solution to Paypal module - After five tests on the most popular modules none ticked all the boxes......

The best lm-paypal got a major problem with as after click on donate button the block code does not pop up with Paypal payment block but justs directs the user to login to their paypal page but the rest of the module works fine and for the life of me could not resolve the issue....

After trying anoher 5 none were any better than the standard I have on nuke so was a bit gutted I could not get http://drupal.org/project/lm_paypal to work

I can just do another simple donate as we have now but I have to manually update payments where is lm paypal on drupal automates that but the backend works fine but the block button does not and they only have one code example so a lot of wasted time on that..............

For now will go with standard Donate to Paypal so I can move on to other stuff but guess I am nearly reasdy to go live on new site.........

Enforcer if you are not ready by end of next week I am going to go live and port forum over again so I can ditch this site and progress - for starters it will stop the spam and I can spend my time supporting new site before I forget how I fixed the port over from here

Need to do a lot of work on lay out but just found a shout box AKA Live Chat but not sure about it but that was after spending 4 hours trying some of them out but hopefully will find a better one..........

So setting myself a target to go live next weekend :idea:

Ok Website updates

Have Sorted TS3 modules now - also importing KML best I can, this needs template work as their is no replacement for it so need help on Template fix for it to use within in new site, have imported it and working fine just needs the new theme.......

At present its all layed out like the old site this was just to get things working and running - not sure what you got planned Enforcer as regards to page layouts so at present just going for like to like as no point me doing that side until IO know what you have so far

but just porting stuff over best I can..........

Have Donate working but working on better solution.........

Working on support request for hosted clan servers

Importing RSS feeds from KML at present...........

But all working and no going back now ))))

RSS feeds from league done.........

Support ticket system done but with major issue........

Got a few dependant modules with "Date module" and jQuery UI which are stopping me from finishing Support ticket module because of field entry ...........

so wasted a day on this today and still got me beat

Oh well frsh mind tomorrow to try again

Hi all well thought I would give a quick update on where we are at - I have not been online much as trying to box this off best I can.........

But at the same time need to get it right or no point movig off this website to another.........

It has been a major learning curve for me to try and migrate from this site...........

It was important for me to take what features we had and improve and also not to loose our existing data from the forum and other stuff that does work ok..........

As I have said I can and have migrated the forum and users to the new platform so this was a major step forward.........

So where are we now - well was just about ready to go live when we did some testing (thanks Joto) Well basically I fell into the IE trap of web design - which is IE sucks and is major pain in the arse 8O

For me I use Chrome so all my dev work on new site was based around it - I expected some problems on other browsers but most of the new build is compliant across standards ......NOT mine lol - IE made the new site look like it had been wrote on a ZX spectrum

So went back to the start to try and fix a few things and just got to the point that was not happy with it so I have scrapped about 2 weeks worth of work

But this is good as I have learnt a lot and now working on new build which is already only a week behind where I was before as I have applied a lot of what I have learned to the new build.............

So sorry for the delay but I need to get this right and sorry not been online much but turning into major nerd on this to be honest I have enjoyed it as as much enoying when you cant fix something is a g8 feeling when it goes well
