Lag across dedi's

Hi all as per shout box had a reply from GD about lag across dedi's last night http://forums.gamingdeluxe.net/showthread.php/10637-Any-network-issues-tonight?p=78046#post78046 - When you do post please always post the server IP helps us trace - found last night hard to trace problems but with IP's its easier to trace problems.

Happy shooting - Kill em ALL and kill em again

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi all well a bit of a crap weekend for AAAA Hosting so wanted to update and say where we are at and try explain some of the problems........

First off GD did have a few attacks (denial of service) over the last few days which effected all of our dedi's

Secondly the new Dedi2 clearly appears to have some sort of problem causing lag its not spec we are not going over 10% CPU - GD are looking into this to see if its network or the new dedi build on 2008 server or something else so thats work in progress

Thirdly Dedi3 - Well I am seeing the Website spike the CPU so I am currently trying to source a host to move the website as it now seems clear it could be a factor on Dedi3..................

So Dedi1 is stable and only impact was the GD DOS attacks

Dedi2 GD DOS attacks and ongoing issue GD investigating

Dedi3 GD DOS attacks and website impact - Heatsink to move website

If Dedi2 becomes stable then I will be in a position to move some servers off dedi3 to dedi2 without effecting performance but until its stable not much I can do as will be just a case of moving from one problem to another so please bare with me.

Have already found one website host that will suit our needs and be well in budget waiting on another quote - I should be able to move it quick all being well...............

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi all had some feed back from GD - they have checked the new dedi (92) as have I and we have not found any issues.........

GD's own network is managed and they often have to block service attacks but it is possible that we are getting targeted specifically - I now request all admins to install this Joto's Gsprotector http://www.scapp.net/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;download=32

http://www.scapp.net/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=4fq0su0d80ech38pgagf47sla80v7umv&action=downloads;sa=download;id=63

Some of you may be already running this please ensure you have latest 3.9 version - those who have not you just need to restart your server as I have copied all the files over already on dedi2 - For those already running you will need to check your current version as I cant over write the files while your server is running as they will be in use already

Re: Lag across dedi's
Please change the passwords in the GsProtector.ini file: rconpw and loginpw to strong passwords. (The passwords can be different from the rconpw that you use normally in your game server, but you can also use the same as your game server rcon password for the convenience)

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi Solomony its already on your server you could try to remove as a test to see if it resolves your lag at round start.

To remove just take out the files it install's mohaa exe folder their are a couple of DLL's

Re: Lag across dedi's

I am not saying GS protector is causing this lag just going through options to rule stuff out As Both box's are not showing any problems...............

Next Option if above fails as a test can you stop your server and remove the reborn pk3 and restart and then see how the server runs.

We are not seeing any massive long CPU spikes that would cause this lag on both box's but clearly something is not right - One of the reason's we upgraded dedi'2 was to rule this out but you are still seeing the lag so I want to rule out GSprotector and the patch as a test

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi all just a quick update........

For WOV on dedi3 (109.70.148.37) I have removed GSprotector - and the server now seem's ok - I am not saying GSprotector is the root cause but perhaps The Reborn patch + server mods + GS protector maybe a bridge to far but from a hardware view we are looking great so I wanted to strip some things out and randomly picked GSprotector as a start - by no means does this mean you should all remove it - but in this case it worked - I am sure if we removed the patch and left GSprotector it would have worked out the same - every server is different but having checked the hardware with GD I had to start looking at what is causing the lag on Dedi2 and 3

One things for sure everyones server is very different between whats on and off on the patch and what mods are running................

If I thought our hardware was crap say and we needed to increase costs stuff like that then I would say - example the new dedi2 - the problem is I am not seeing that issue at all on dedi2 with only a few game servers running unlike dedi1 with many and less hardware spec..............

For dedi3 also the hardware spec and what we have running is nothing compared to dedi1................

My top priority will be to move the website off dedi3 to private hosting after I get back but again dedi2 has no websites yet seems to be giving as much lag as dedi3 so I hope you can see why I cant find the issues........................

Also all this seems to be the last week

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi Solomony - I have included GS in the AAAA Stock server build but not sure when it was loaded on yours - when I rolled out 3.9 I noticed A few servers already had it on so I just thought I would try WOV's with out - give it try on yours to see if it resolves your round issue with out - all the files are in the root to get a list of the files just download it from scapp site..............

I spoke to Joto tonight - An example is a few clans running 32 slot windows servers with the patch and GS all running great but again they will be running different mods so its hard to say, I just try'd this as I cant find the problem on the hardware side

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi all seen the reports of lag tonight.......

For Dedi3 not much I can do until I move the website as that's the only thing that could effect dedi3 but seeing that dedi2 without the website is having the same problems I am really at a loss having looked at both a lot and GD looked as well..............

I am not sure what to do next to be honest if it had just been dedi3 then I could just blame the website but on the new hardware spec's on dedi2 I am at a loss for answers.....................

As a clan to help all I can suggest next is perhaps going back to Reborn 2.5.......................

As a community host I am out of ideas on the cause and I am not in a position to support Linux..............

So what next unsure - I will pass this back to GD but I am not expecting any answers to fix this....................

We could merge dedi2 and 3 to the next level on one larger box but I dont see this as a hardware issue but I am ready to say to GD we are going to have to look at something as even they dont think its a spec issue..........................

Sorry all but not much more I can do..................

Re: Lag across dedi's

I think the problem here is maybe some server is causing the lag for the others server or all servers need to do is a new instalation like the windows sometimes you need to format the computer to run mutch better and maybe we need to defrag all servers :S

One of the 3 choices maybe fix the lag...

But John is you decide what to do Smile

Re: Lag across dedi's

Ruling out dedi3 for now as it could be the website which I will move as soon as I can.

For dedi2 it could be one of the servers lagging the others out but we are not catching it by the time I am logging on the CPU and hardware look like they are not getting warm -

Their is a performance monitor I have left running Victor its better than task manager and will give some history - please try and log on as soon as a clan reports lag on dedi2 - Can every one who reports lag please give a time stamp which will also help us trace back.

At the end of the day if we cant get to the bottom of this I would suggest we merge both dedi2 and 3 and get a higherspec box again I would also go for a new IP range on a different subnet at GD - Then take it from their - If say at that point we are not happy and GD cant find any issue's we would then have a chat on next step.

SCAPP watchdog has a CPU Limit for servers I am going to reduce this to see if I can find any of the servers hogging CPU

Re: Lag across dedi's

I have mailed GD to also ask for a trial new high spec server around the budget of £110 which is what we spend on dedi2 and dedi3 - I am not sure if they can do this but we will see........................

The whole point of AAAA Community hosting was to provide a cost effective solution to elp support the clans and MOHAA together for reason's we dont yet know both dedi2 and3 have been shite (( - The whole point of the dedi2 upgrade was to sort this but clearly it hasnt so I am a bit frustrated the hosting has been so bad pink sorry

The daft thing is our worst spec dedi1 with the most running on the same netowrk as dedi2 and 3 is running great and the only lag was from the DOS attacks.............

Re: Lag across dedi's

SCAPP Watch dog on Dedi2 now set at 70% so any clan server using 70% CPU will be restarted it was set at 90% dont think we will see anything from this but I wanted to test to see if I could catch a rogue server using 70% CPU

Re: Lag across dedi's

Ok GD are setting up us a test dedi server will be something like Dell R210 plus.

Quad core threaded cpu's ( shows up as 8 cpu's )

I will then build the server from the existing dedi2 backup via FTP and then change all the server ips and send you all details - I will also move a copy of WOV's OBJ server from dedi3 to it and then it will be a case of you all working together to hammer the new test server till you bust it - If you cant bust it then we can have a chat about sticking with it but will mean a new IP for all on dedi2 and 3 but lets see how the test goes

Re: Lag across dedi's

To be perfectly honest i'm kinda at a loss at to all what is going on here Sad as i've lost my server/modder guy now.....

All i can say is the obj server has bouts of really bad lag....It was absolutely fine a few weeks ago so i dunno tbh.

Re: Lag across dedi's

Lag at the beginning of the round could be caused by the Anti-Cham mod, as it forces the colored screens at the beginning of each round. I had the same problem on my server as well, but figured it was worth it.

Re: Lag across dedi's

Hi all I have managed to start the FTP transfers from dedi3 and dedi2 to the new test server (backup dates 1007)
Thats the easy part - the next step will be to set it it all up this will take some time as I have to change all the server IP's to the new test server...........

Once this is done I will let you all know the new IP so you can all jump on and stress test..............
