Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

When I first started playing this game 11ish years ago, I had 4 machines in the house and we could all connect to the same server without issues.
Now, it would seem my something isn't right now and it's causing problems to the point I need to ask for some ideas.

Back then I had a Linksys wrt54g router, now I have a TP-Link TL-WDR3600.
I never had an issue like this before.

Here is what it does:

If I connect then computer 2 connects we both get kicked or I do, or screen goes black.
If I'm able to reconnect, my score is still there. Sometimes I have to reboot the router to get back in.

Occasionally machine 2 connects first then I do and everything is fine for the whole time we play.
If machine 2 disconnects then reconnects we get kicked or screen goes black same as above.

I've search for multiple same Ip server settings but I'm only seeing them available for the Reborn patch.
I've also tried forwarding the ports as you would for a home server, but still no change.

So, any ideas lol ?

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

Hi Major A oh yes back in the day I have had some big lan parties like 15 of us !! and no issues so something has changed for sure to cause these problems.........

So what OS is the server running on Windows 7 ?

What are all the players connecting from Windows 7 ?

The PC that is running the Server is that been used by a player also ie you have created the game via the game multiplayer lan or are you running a full dedicated server ?

The above info above will help me trace the problem for you.........

In the mean time some other you can try to elminate.......

I have had routers where their were some issues with the Auto port PNP - where I have had to add them manually same as if you were allowing external internet players to connect to your server

A thread here we some port info

Now this is more for gamespy which is down but a few ports will help..............

I think your best option though is to rule out your router to do so find the setting "DMZ" this is a major security risk but this is a temp fix to try so you can find the problem -http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/networksecurity/g/bldef_dmz.htm

This basically is allow all connections no restrictions

Happy shooting - Kill em ALL and kill em again

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

Also with reference to above if you are running it in game try as a dedi server at home instead or the other way round if you are running a dedi server run it as a in game server to see if it works

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

I'm sry I should have mention the OpSys's.

The server uses Win7 enterprise and is NOT local/lan It is in another State, dedicated.

The machines at home I'm currently using are win7 pro.
What made me think it was a router issue was it happens on pretty much any server
we connect to.

I should have mentioned as well that I have found a "get key" error in the log.
I should also note that the other computer had a Warchest install, no key needed. when the problem started.
The problem persisted so I installed the same version I use on my machine. Same problem.

I just realized as well, the second computer is giving me fits about saving settings.
I cannot get the multiplayer skins to stay on what I set them to. It took forever to get the custom controls set so they
wouldn't default back. That computer has permissions set so only I can install things.
However Full control of that directory has been given to the owner and admin as well as system.
And the windows bug known as virtualstore Tongue ,has been disabled

In the meantime, I'll give the DMZ a try.

I couldn't find any Code Tags in the menu so I could only paste it regular.
This is from the OTD server a a couple weeks ago in my consol log

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

Hi Major Smile

The problem i see you have is your server is checking for the keys of the players i found in one day a patch was removing that problem but now is not easy to find that patch...

You are running the last patch of SH? v2.15

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

Ok couple of thoughts - on the server make sure this in the config -:
//** sets how many connections from Same IP
seta sv_maxconnperip 5

Also I think you may have an issue with the same key being used on the lan PC installs - use a different key gen on each PC as I have had that disconnect players due to same key

Happy shooting - Kill em ALL and kill em again

Cheers

Thats the odd part as well. This was happening with two separate installs. One of the installs was a Warchest install, but not the other.

Thankyou I will try this. I was under the impression that would only work with the Reborn patch.
I'll let you know what happens

Yes SH 2.15 the exe patch that fixes server browser from gamespy shutdown.
Now having said that, machine 2 did not have that yet until yesterday so we will see tonight.
If you find that patch, please let me know, I was unaware of such patch, as this has never happened before.

EDIT:

I already use this server patch in my server, and thinking back, "I THINK" my server was one of the few we didn't get kicked from.
I didn't realize I was inadvertently insinuating the problem was with my server. When I was asked what my server was running
I just got it stuck in my head it was something I had to fix on my end, that's what was making me think it was a router issue as well
in actuality, it was the some of the other servers this was happening in. I'll double check this tonight since I'm hosting the maps tonight.
It's funny though, if this patch didn't come out til 2010, It was around 2004 I was connecting to one server with 4 machine and no issues,
so it's baffling me what's changed. angry

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

If it helps as well, I revisited a different server that kicked both machines the previous night,
but it wouldn't do it the next day. It seems to be oddly intermittent at times.

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

... Yeh soz was treating it more as i would on

mohaa  but i still think its a max ip or dupe key but as you said the warchest
is different key not up to speed on max   ip On sh but also this max ip limit is present on server scanners and admin kick tools so also worth a thought when your getting kicked off other severs

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

OK, After more testing and reinstalls, here is the short version of how I solved the issue.

I reinstalled Warchest on machine 2,
Reinstalled original "Classic" on machine 1.
everything seams ok for past week, no getting kicked.

Chalk it up to Cause - Bad Install

Also, in case if anyone is unfamiliar to a Warchest install from GOG, I thought I'd add this,
it has all the updates installed upon install, and the only directory changed as far as I can see is AA...

...and it looks like this, and a Classic install looks like this:

Re: Multiple Lan IP's to server connection issue.

Ok glad you got it sorted and thanks for the update will help others
